Subject: Obstacle Course: Grades: 1-3 & 4-6
Objective (Standard):
Students will develop fundamental movement skills that are associated with our Obstacle Course.
Enduring Understanding:
Students will participate in physical activity to achieve and maintain a healthy level of physical fitness.
Essential Questions:
What fundamental movement skills would you associate with our Obstacle Course?
How will participation in physical activity allow you to maintain a healthy level of fitness?
In what ways will we develop responsible and respectful personal and social behavior skills?
Day One: Intro to proper techniques of our Obstacle Course.
Activity:
1. Students will find stretching spots and warm-up.
2. Students will watch high school student assistants compete in Obstacle Course.
3. Instructor will demonstrate the culminating activity of the Obstacle Course.
4. Students will be assigned practice teams and be sent to areas of the gym or field
5. The teams will compete in a group activity. The Obstacle Course Relay. .
6. Self Assessment: Students will evaluate their own times. Students will evaluate individual improvement in time.
7. Students will also learn how to operate the stopwatch for individual times of their partner.
8. While the students are completing the formal peer assessment the instructor will use a check off observation sheet that tells whether each student improved, participated, and demonstrated sportsmanship.
9. When all cooperative groups have completed the assessment and have returned to their spots, then the instructor will review the main points to our obstacle course.
